How To Create Purpose In life(B8)

Welcome to this weeks newsletter - How To Create Purpose In life

My Journey

If you have ever wondered how you can understand what your purpose is -

This is for you

For years, I felt lost, directionless, and indulged in short-term pleasures that were slowly taking everything from me.

At the time, I didn’t understand why but looking back, I now see it was because I lacked purpose.

I had no vision.

No dreams
No real goals.
And I thought I had no strong reason to become better than who I already was.

TURNING POINT

After years of abusing myself, letting myself down, and spiralling further into pain, I hit my version of rock bottom.

I was sick and tired of who I had become.
I’d look in the mirror and hate the person staring back at me.
I’d cry myself to sleep, praying things would change and I would keep punishing myself with even more drink and drugs to numb myself.

One night I sat alone in my flat thinking death seemed like the only way out.
But then I thought of everyone in my life and how it would affect them.
At that moment, I knew something had to change or I was going to lose my life

I didn't know it at the time but what I needed was purpose.

I needed something that would out weigh what I thought I gained from drink and drugs. Something that would hold me accountable, that would give me hope and direction in my life.

I never had anything in my life that i was good at, I didn't have a passion nor did I have a career that I could lean into

I always thought purpose was this thing you was born with or something you discovered but it wasnt

My life changed when I created purpose, I didn't find it, I didn't discover it, I created it and I did so by understanding these four simple but effective questions.

Question One: Who do I want to be?

This one question alone gave me clarity. Even though I didn’t have a clear picture at the time, I knew deep down I wanted to be something more. And I believe, deep down, we all want to be something more, we’re just unsure or uncertain about what that looks like. But by simply spending time on this question, things slowly started to fall into place.

So, I ask you — who do you want to be?
What is your identity?
How do you want to view yourself?
How do you want to look and feel?
How do you want to be perceived by others?
What traits, habits, and skills do you want to build?

If you could put together the ideal version of yourself over the next one, two, three, even five years, who would that be?

Do you want to be confident? Consistent? Disciplined?
Fit, healthy, energised?
A morning person?
Someone who’s great at sales, communication, and leadership?

Or maybe it’s an endurance athlete, an author, a public speaker, or a contributor.
Or it could be all of the above, that’s up to you.

Getting clear on who you want to become is the first step toward real change. Because once I understood that, I could start figuring out the next question…

Action:
Grab a piece of paper and write down:
Who do I want to be in life?
Think about how you want to view yourself, how you want others to view you, and how you want to feel day to day.

Then ask:

  • What traits do I want to live by?

  • What habits do I want to build?

Once you’ve answered these, go out and start stepping into that version of you.

Tip:
When you do this, put yourself in a positive state. Don’t hold back.
The only thing standing in your way is you.
Let go of doubt, worry, and fear and connect with exactly who you want to become.

Question Two: What goals do I want to achieve?

Once I had a clear picture of who I wanted to be, I could finally match the right goals to that version of me.

At the time, I wanted to be confident, consistent, and disciplined. So I had to choose goals that would help me become that person.
My goals were simple but powerful:

  • Read one book per month

  • Wake up at 6am every day

  • Take a cold shower each morning

I wanted to be fit, healthy, and strong, so my goals were:

  • Get in shape

  • Start running

  • Do Muay Thai regularly

If you want to become someone who’s great at sales, communication, or leadership,  then what goals would match that identity? Is it hitting a certain income target?
Getting promoted?
Studying from the best in your field?
Practicing public speaking weekly?

When you have a clear vision of the person you want to be, you can reverse-engineer the goals that will build that person, not just in the short term, but over the next 1, 2, 3, even 5 years and beyond.

Once I knew who I wanted to be and the goals I needed to chase iit naturally led me to the next question.

Action:
Grab a piece of paper and write:
What goals do I want to achieve? Then start breaking those goals down into a simple plan.
Take action now, not later.

Tip:
Put yourself in a positive state when you answer these questions.
Don’t hold back. Don’t let doubt or fear stop you.
Get clear, and go after what you truly want

Question Three: What lifestyle do I want to live?

The lifestyle you want will naturally be a by-product of the goals you achieve — but also of how you want to spend your time.

We live in a world where everyone is comparing their life to someone else’s. But the truth is, not all of us want the same things. When I finally got honest with myself about the kind of life I wanted, I started waking up each day feeling more in alignment. I wasn’t there yet — but I was on the path.

At first, my dream lifestyle was simple:

  • Stay away from drink and drugs on the weekends

  • Wake up fresh, clear, and focused

  • Go to the gym and stay active

But over time, my vision grew.
I wanted freedom. I wanted to work from anywhere, travel when I wanted, and spend my time doing what I love, when I choose.

So that’s what I started building.

Now it’s your turn.
Ask yourself:

  • What lifestyle do I want to live?

  • How do I want to spend my time — daily, weekly, yearly?

  • Do I want time freedom?

  • Do I want to travel the world or stay grounded in one place?

  • Do I want a home abroad? Or two homes?

  • Do I want luxury — or simplicity?

  • What would an ideal day look like from start to finish?

  • Do I want kids? To put them in private school?

  • What do I want to wake up excited for?

You get one life. This is your opportunity to design it not based on what others expect, but based on what’s true for you.

This is when my vision really started coming together.
I knew who I wanted to be.
I knew the goals I wanted to achieve.
And now I could clearly see the lifestyle I wanted to live.

But there was one final piece I needed and that’s when I moved into the next question

Question Four: Why do I want this?

Why do I want to be this person?
Why do I want to achieve these goals?
Why do I want to live this life?

This is the fuel. This is the reason you show up — not just once, but every single day.
Because when you know your why, you gain strength. You gain courage. You make showing up a non-negotiable.

When I first begun my why was me, I was sick and tired of being who I was and I was desperate to change but as time went on it evolved and my what Is to “Be a inspiration to my old self” “To give my family everything and still to be my best self because I want to make myself proud”

So ask yourself these questions:

  • Why do I want to be this person?

  • Why do I want to achieve these goals?

  • Why do I want to live this life?

And don’t just skim the surface.
Go deep and get emotionally connected to the answer.

If you’re unsure where to start, draw from pain and pleasure

PAIN

Think about:

  • The experiences that hurt you and that you never want to repeat.

  • Emotions you’re sick of feeling.

  • The people who doubted you, disrespected you, or made you feel small.

My pain looked like this:
I hit rock bottom.
I didn’t want to be me anymore.
I didn’t want to live.
I cried myself to sleep.
I was tired of being an embarrassment to myself.
That pain gave me no choice but to change.

PLEASURE

If there’s no pain strong enough to move you, draw from what gives you joy and meaning.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I gain deep pleasure from?

  • What lights me up and makes me feel alive?

  • Who do I love showing up for?

  • What would make me proud of the man I’m becoming?

My pleasure came from:
Helping others create purpose in their life.
Ensuring my family never goes without.
Challenging myself because it makes me proud.
Becoming the person I never had growing up.

This is important for you to understand because once you have it there is no going to living an average ordinary life, unless that's what you want?

Action:

Write this down on a piece of paper:
Why do I want all of this?

Think about both pain and pleasure.
Then ask yourself why not once, but at least five times, until it hits a place that feels emotional, personal, and powerful.

That’s when you know you’ve found it.

REFLECTION

Most people think they need to hit rock bottom to change  but you don’t.
Whatever you're going through right now, whether you're at rock bottom or just feel like you're currently not fulfilling your potential
What's missing is a clear purpose.

And I promise you, if you spend time answering these questions:

  • Who do I want to be?

  • What goals do I want to achieve?

  • What lifestyle do I want to live?

  • And what’s the deep reason why I must show up not just now, but over the next 1–5 years?

It will give you a clear vision, direction, and a reason to keep showing up as your best.

I hit rock bottom over and over again.
I could never stop drinking and doing drugs  but once I started to build momentum on these questions,
and once I started to believe I could actually fulfil this vision everything changed.

I went sober over four years ago and I’ve never looked back.
Because I realised  no substance would ever outweigh the feeling I gain from fulfilling my potential.

Don’t let anything hold you back from reaching yours either.

Action:

Once you’ve understood these four questions in depth, I want you to consistently remind yourself of them and keep that vision alive:

  • Who you want to be

  • What goals you want to achieve

  • The life you want to live

  • And why you must show up every day

And don’t just remind yourself by speaking it
Go out and be the person you want to be.
Put yourself in a place to achieve those goals.
And create the life you truly desire.
